So, I went through probably 500 photos at my parent’s place tonight for Thanksgiving. I thought I’d share a few over the next while. This is my Mom and her 1974 260z and sadly, the Autotrader ad she sold it with.
She’s always on BAT looking for another to replace it.

Soooooo... can we talk about the elephant in the room. The landau top?

2 tone I am pretty certain.

It’s hard to tell but I think you are rig ht. The extra trim makes it difficult to tell, but I can see the rear deck pilla r weld in the last photo very clearly .

Sold around 1983?
I notice the black top is matte, some kind of funky dealer installed accessory item I suspect (maybe along with those wheels).

Probably exactly 83

‘83 eh. I’m still not sure it’s quite
hit “classic” status, but it’s probably next to follow after the 240.

Oooh! Woman driven! Dunno, mom looks cool, I bet she hoons.

That would be a lot more than 5,500 now. Adjusted for inflation that’s 14000 today. Which would be a fiat deal for a fair condition 260

I really like that two tone/landau look (faux-landau? ) and don’t think I’ve seen it before on a Z car . Unique and very 70s.

I’m a good guesser, that time spent reading old ads isn’t for naught!

The term “future classic” was big in classified ads then, as the malaisey downsized/emasculated cars were current, and cars even 10 - 15 years old seemed to be from a golden age. As we know, these predictions didn’t always turn out.

Haha! That makes perfect sense! I’m not sure how much malaise translated to Australia (I’d say not at all). Also, I wasn’t alive then.
Do you think there’s a similar-ish thing happening how? In the era
of over-designed boring auto SUVs, there’s a certain group already shouting about the end of the manuals, the last manual Porsche, etc etc

Emissions regulations in the early 70s along with unleaded gasoline/catalysts in 1975 really did a number on many American cars. Iffy design didn’t help either. I don’t think there were nearly the same problems in Oz, where muscle cars lived on. The evolution into the 80s was hard on some drivers. Like for my parents - my dad went from a 70 Mustang to a Plymouth Horizon. My mom went from a big 70s T-Bird with a 460 to a Tempo. There must have been some shock, and yearning for the traditional cars.
I think there is definitely something similar now, especially about manuals, and cars not laden with tech and nannies. Busy ugly styling is also something some are finally shunning too.

‘65 GTO for $ 7500. These days you can’t get a ‘65 GTO VIN plate for $7500!
